Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to hike on the Nez Perce Trail?

The Nez Perce Trail is on the alignment of many travelways used from time immemorial -- first by the four-leggeds and then by the people. These paths and trails were well chosen for travel and were so successful that many today are highways and roads for modern-day travelers. There are trail segments that are marked for hiking and equestrian use. Some are even rugged 4x4 routes. You will find the best guidance in the trail's Auto Tour Guides. How will my contribution be used?

All of our work supports the trail in one or more ways. Interpretation receives much attention as it is one of the best ways to share the trail with you. We develop interpretive signs, videos, and podcasts, and we bring knowledgeable speakers and cultural presenters to communities along the trail. We also work to protect sites along the trail, and we support local museums and tourism partners along the trail so that they are better able to share the trail with you. We also work to advocate for Congress to continue to robustly support all National Scenic and Historic Trails. And of course, we do all the organizing and planning required to accomplish these tasks. We appreciate your support and look forward to hearing from you about your experiences along the trail.
